NATURAL RESOURCES

Introduction

From the very beginning of human civilization on earth, all the things are dependent on natural resources to get energy. Solar energy, wind energy, wave energy are used from the very far days ago. The natural resources include all resources which does not require human for its production. Magnetic field, electric field, gravitational force, sunlight, water, wind, crops, vegetation all are the example of natural resource.

Types of natural resources

Categorizing of natural resources, you may find various methods like development stage, it’s renewable or not and source. Considering development phase, they can be categorized in following ways, actual resources, reserve resources, and stock resources. The resources are used a lot these days by the people, to get energy. And we have latest technology to make them usable at reasonable cost. This is called actual resources. The part that is not used now can be used in future profitably because of this technology; of actual resources is called reserve resources. And lastly the resources about which we know, but can’t use because of technology that are known as stock resources. Many natural resources can be categorized in renewable and non-renewable energy. The presence of renewable resources in nature has no end. No matter how much we use this kind of energy then also it will never end. Sunlight, wind, air, water, wave are the perfect example of these resources. Actually their quantity is not noticeable by human beings, and do not affect that much when human consume it. They are called renewable because of their rapid recovery rate. But if humans will over use it then it may deplete. We call it renewable because of its recovery rate is greater than its consumption rate. And when it becomes low than that, we consider it as non-renewable resources. Coming to the non-renewable resources, they are such kind of resources which do not form naturally in the environment. Minerals are the perfect example of this. According to us resources are non-renewable when their consumption is greater than its formation, and minerals do not form again, it cannot be recovered. The fossil fuels, coal are some of the perfect examples of these types of resources. These resources take millions of year to form, so their forming speed is negligible. So, we consider this as a non-renewable source. There are some radio-active elements present in the earth surface, and if we disturb them they deplete, and form other heavy metal element. But they can be reused to get energy. But this is not true for fossil fuels, ones they are used, they will take millions of years to reproduce. On the basis of origin, biotic and abiotic are the types of resources. Biotic are those which form from living elements. It may be tree, may be animals or may be other living things. The fossil fuels like coal, petroleum, kerosene are the perfect examples for these types of resources and they are formed from the biotic matter. Abiotic resources are from non-living, non-biotic material of nature. Land, water, earth element are the example of these types of resources. Extracting of natural resources: so if we like to use natural resources, then first we need to extract it, modify it according to our needs by using technology. After that it is ready to use. This can be used from preindustrial society to global industry. A country’s economic growth depends on how much its technology and extractive industry has developed. Hunting, mining, forest, oil and gas drilling are the examples of extractive industry. The natural resources can add a huge amount of money in a country’s budget. When a natural resource is discovered then a huge amount of money flows and this leads sudden people towards corruption, inequality, underdevelopment or sometimes this sudden liquid cash flow can also be harmful for other industry. An under developed country can be changed with the help of extractive industry. It can change economically and also socially. Skills, infrastructure, enterprise development can be happen by this change and civil society will also grow due to this. But problem is that whatever growth we deserve, we always not get though wealth generates that much. Many of us think that it is only an acting of extractive industry, to promote themselves to powerful corporation. Some other think current government always think to make current revenue maximum, and to do that they only research on development and business of resources. We should always concern about natural resources and extractive industry and work, and give strong opinion on balanced system where we all get equal opportunity to develop and grow.

Problems

In recent years, our major focus is on sustainable development issue. Depletion of natural resources becomes a headache for government and organization which works on natural resources or depends on natural resources. Here, comes a huge problem raised that we are over using the natural resources and we are not thinking about the future generation. If from now we are unable to balance the need of people in the world now and to the future generation, then it will become one of the biggest mistakes of being a human. The social inequality is a cause of natural resources depletion. If we look carefully, then we observe maximum resources are present in developing country. And when we try to extract it, we are actually disturbing their biodiversity. As a result their contribution on nature or climate is decreased significantly. And this may give us a start to conflict in developing nations. The main example of it is deforestation and degradation of rainforest region which hold most of world’s biodiversity. It is also called lunch of world and this takes place because of extraction of natural resources. This is cause of direct change of nature.

Prevention

In 1982 world charter for nature was developed to protect nature from human selfish activity. The IUCN, WWF, UNEP all are developed later on to protect nature from depletion. Conservation science is a branch of study where we got to know about wild plants, animals, extinction of excessive rate of ecosystem, natural ecosystem management. And from there we came to know about why we need to preserve the natural resources. Keeping in mind how affects climate change will have to quality of life for present and future generation and according to that we should use natural resources. We should have a definite knowledge about which resource is right to use or not to use and what the boundaries of using these resources are. The most of natural resources are possessed by countries are Russia, followed by United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Iran.

Conclusion

Natural resources are tremendously threatened by human lifestyle. We are asking for more and more comforts. Education to transport and clothing, in all are we are demanding to use more comfort. As a result more production is used. And to produce more production industry demands more natural resources and raw material. So only we are responsible for this nature disaster. Only the sustainable and simple life is the only solution of it. And from now if we can’t do it, a worst future is waiting for us.
